Electronics prototyping: the board, the box and the build

FabraForma takes electronics products from prototype to small batch from its studio in Powai, Mumbai: enclosures in-house, PCB work through vetted partners.

Hardware start-ups and product teams usually juggle a PCB house, an enclosure maker and an assembler. We run all three, so the board fits the box the first time.

What we bring together

Enclosure design (in-house)

Housings modelled around your PCB, display, battery and connectors, with bosses, vents, snap fits and cable exits in the right place.

Printed enclosures (in-house)

FDM and SLA enclosures in days for fit checks, field trials and first customer units, sanded and painted if they need to look finished.

PCB design (partner)

Schematic capture and layout for your circuit, with the mechanical outline and mounting holes taken from our enclosure CAD.

PCB fabrication and assembly (partner)

Bare boards, SMT and through-hole assembly at prototype and small-batch quantities, with component sourcing.

Wiring harnesses (partner)

Cables and harnesses built to your drawing, with the lengths and routing checked in our enclosure model.

Box build (partner)

Boards, harnesses and enclosure assembled into a finished, tested unit ready to ship.

What it can look like

Printed enclosures, from fit check to field trial

Enclosure work this page describes, from the first fit on a real board to a unit on a wall.

How an electronics prototype runs

Short loops, with the mechanical and electrical sides checked against each other at every step.

  • 1. Requirements.
What the device does, where it lives, how it is powered and how many you need.
  • 2. Board and box together.
The PCB outline, connectors and mounting are fixed with the enclosure design, not after it.
  • 3. First boards and printed enclosures.
Prototype boards come from the partner; enclosures are printed in-house. Fit is checked on the real board.
  • 4. Iterate.
Fix what the first build shows. Printed enclosures change overnight, and board revisions go back to the partner.
  • 5. Small batch.
Assembled and tested units, with enclosures printed in bulk, vacuum formed or moulded depending on quantity.

How the partner route works

PCB and assembly work runs through vetted partners

FabraForma does not design or assemble PCBs in-house. Enclosures, mechanical design and printing are ours; PCB design, fabrication, assembly, harnesses and box build are placed with partners we have vetted, coordinated by us as one project.

  • One point of contact: FabraForma scopes the job, runs the partner and checks the parts
  • The partner route is labelled in your quote, never passed off as in-house work
  • Design, 3D printed prototypes and finishing stay in our Powai studio

See Capabilities for exactly what runs in-house and what goes to partners.

Questions buyers ask

Do you make PCBs in-house?
No. PCB design, fabrication and assembly are done by vetted partners that FabraForma coordinates. Enclosure design and printing are in-house in Powai.
Can you design an enclosure around a board I already have?
Yes. Send the board, or its STEP model or drawing, and we design and print an enclosure around it.
How many units can you make?
From a single prototype to small batches. For large volumes we move the enclosure to vacuum forming or injection moulding and tell you when that pays off.
Will you sign an NDA?
Yes. Send yours or ask for ours before sharing schematics or firmware.

Building a device?

Send the board, the schematic or just the idea. We reply within 24 hours.
