3D scanning: capture the real part, then design from it
FabraForma 3D scans parts in its Powai, Mumbai studio on a Shining 3D EinScan Rigil, and turns the scan into a clean mesh, editable CAD or a finished part.
When the only thing that exists is the object, a scan is the fastest honest starting point. We scan it, clean it, and take it as far as you need: a mesh, a CAD model, a replacement part or a scaled replica.
What we scan
Spares and legacy parts
Discontinued or undocumented parts scanned so they can be rebuilt as CAD and made again. See reverse engineering.
Fit-around parts
Scan the existing machine, vehicle or product so a new bracket, mount, enclosure or adapter is designed to its real shape.
Sculptures and heritage pieces
Art, idols, trophies and heritage objects captured for replicas, resizing or restoration, without sending the original away.
Large objects
Infrared mode covers bigger items such as body panels, furniture and props in fewer passes.
Moulds and tooling
Existing patterns and moulds scanned to archive them or make a new master.
On site
The scanner is wireless with built-in computing, so we can scan at your premises when a part cannot travel.
The scanners
We say which scanner does your job and why, in the quote.
- In-house: Shining 3D EinScan Rigil.
Handheld laser and infrared scanner. In its Laser HD mode the manufacturer rates it at up to 0.04 mm + 0.06 mm/m volumetric accuracy, with resolution down to 0.05 mm. Right for reverse engineering, replicas and fit-around design. - Partner: metrology-grade scanners.
When a job needs a formal inspection report, certified accuracy or tighter tolerances than a handheld scanner gives, we scan through vetted metrology partners. The partner route is labelled in your quote. - Shiny, black or clear surfaces:
These scan badly with any scanner. We use a removable scanning spray where the part allows it, and tell you first. - Accuracy you can rely on:
Critical features (bores, mating faces, hole patterns) are also measured by hand and the CAD is dimensioned from those measurements, not from the scan alone.
What you get
Pick the stage you need; each one builds on the last.
- 1. Raw scan.
The aligned scan data as a mesh (STL, OBJ or PLY). - 2. Clean, watertight mesh.
Holes filled, noise removed and the mesh made printable. Ready for 3D printing a replica or scaled copy. - 3. Editable CAD (STEP).
The part rebuilt as proper solid geometry you can edit, with the critical dimensions checked by hand. - 4. A comparison with your CAD.
On request, a colour deviation map of the scan against your design, to see where a part has worn or moved. Formal inspection reports go through a metrology partner. - 5. The part itself.
Printed, machined or cast and finished in the studio.
